July 4th - Independence Day

On July 4, 2007, American Corner Craiova celebrated Independence Day. For this occasion two exhibits were prepared a week in advance: a photo exhibit “USA Today”, positioned in the hall of Alexandru and Aristia Aman County Library, and an exhibit of printed, audio and video materials that refer to the independence of the U.S.A. and to that historical period, placed in the American Corner Craiova room. On July 4, Carmen Tica, American Corner Craiova librarian, read the message to the Romanian people of Nicholas Taubman, U.S. Ambassador in Bucharest and Hermina Andreescu, English teacher presented the biography of Bill Gates, Microsoft founder. Over 20 participants were present at the opening. The celebration continued with the screening of “Liberty”, a documentary on the beginnings of the independence war, and the artistic film: “Born on the 4th July”. During the day, people of differed ages, mostly young people visited American Corner Craiova. All the visitors received flags, maps and magazines about the U.S. Informational materials provided by the Information Resource Center in Bucharest and the Ambassador’ message were displayed in the American Corner for the whole week.

On the same day Carmen Tica, American Corner librarian, announced the beginning of the project: “English in Holiday”. The lessons are held by volunteer students or English teachers, from July to August 2007.

4 iulie – Ziua Independentei

In ziua de 4 iulie 2007, American Corner Craiova a organizat celebrarea Zilei Independentei, ziua nationala a S.U.A.
