Lecture on "African-American Women in U.S."

On February 27, 2007, as a perfect ending of the African-American History Month celebration, American Corner Iasi has organized in the Art Galleries of „Gh. Asachi” County Library in Iasi, the lecture “African American Women in the U.S. : Yesterday and Today”, presented by Julie Greenblatt, U.S. Embassy Vice Consul.

More than 80 students, along with their English teachers, from four high school in Iasi - “Emil Racovita” National High School, The Sports’ High School Iasi, The Orthodox Theological Seminary “Sf. Vasile cel Mare” Iasi and Economic Scholar Group of Tourism Iasi - attended the event.

The lecture featured three representative figures: Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman and Condoleezza Rice, but the discussions also extended to general themes, as discrimination and multiculturalism.

The most active participants were rewarded with a copy of the Elie Wiesel’s “Night”, and everybody received publications such as “Arts in America”, “In Celebration of 125 Years of U.S-Romanian Diplomatic Relations” and “Portrait of the U.S.A”.

Prezentare "Femei Afro-Americane in S.U.A."

Ca o incununare a celebrarii Lunii Civilizatiei Afro-Americane, in data de 27 februarie, 2007, American Corner Iasi a organizat, in Galeriile de Arta ale Bibliotecii Judetene „Gh. Asachi” din Iasi, prelegerea “Femei Afro-Americane in S.U.A.: ieri si azi”, sustinuta de Julie Greenblatt, vice-consul al Ambasadei S.U.A. la Bucuresti.

Participanti au fost peste 80 de elevi din clasele IX-XII, insotiti de profesorii de limba engleza, de la patru licee iesene: Colegiul National “Emil Racovita”, Liceul cu Program Sportiv Iasi, Seminarul Teologic Liceal Ortodox “Sf. Vasile cel Mare” Iasi si Grup Scolar Economic de Turism Iasi.

Prelegerea s-a axat in principal pe trei figuri reprezentative: Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman si Condolezza Rice, insa discutiile s-au extins si catre teme generale, cum ar fi discriminarea si multiculturalismul.

Cei mai activi elevi au fost recompensati cu un exemplar din romanul “Noaptea” a lui Elie Wiesel, iar toti participantii au primit publicatii: “Arts in America”, “Sarbatorirea a 125 de ani de relatii diplomatice romano-americane” si “Portrait of U.S.A”.
