United Nations Predicts Bird Flu in the Americas within a Year
Influenza coordinator Nabarro urges high alert for veterinary services worldwide
Bird flu is expected to cross the Atlantic Ocean and reach the Americas within a year, a senior U.N. official said March 8.
Dr. David Nabarro, senior U.N. coordinator for avian and human influenza, said that given the flight patterns of wild birds that have been spreading avian influenza (bird flu) from Asia to Europe and Africa, birds infected with the H5N1 virus could reach the Americas within the next six to 12 months.

(December 2, 2005) Warden Message: Update on Avian Influenza in Romania
On December 1, Romanian authorities detected the H5 avian flu virus in domesticated birds in two villages in Braila county: Bumbacari, in Dudesti district, and Dudescu, in Zavoaia district; and in Periprava village, Sulina district, in Tulcea county. This followed detection of H5 in a domesticated bird in nearby Scarlatesti on November 26.
