CONSTANTA, Romania — The U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 40, Romania Detail began renovation work at the Endocrinology Clinic here today.
About six Seabees from the “Fighting 40” are scheduled to work 9 hours a day, six days a week for the next three months to complete the renovations. The Seabees will replace the doors, tiling and electrical systems, renovate the bathroom and kitchen as well as other improvements.
The budget for the project is approximately $64,000. S.C. Cyltoon received a $25,000 contract to replace the windows and repair the floor. The remainder of the project budget will go toward materials the Seabees will use in the renovation.
The Seabee detachment in Romania will rotate back to Port Hueneme, Calif., in about five months and will be replaced by another detachment. The Seabees plan to maintain a continuous rotation of detachments to Romania and Bulgaria to upgrade Romanian and Bulgarian military bases and perform civic assistance projects in the two Joint Task force-East host nations.
NMCB Forty is a 600-person Seabee Combat Battalion that specializes in contingency construction, disaster relief and humanitarian assistance.
Joint Task Force-East requests that the media not disrupt work while the Seabees are at the Endocrinology Clinic. An event will be scheduled in mid-October when the media will have the opportunity to interview Seabees and see them performing renovation work on the clinic.
