USING THE DROP-BOX

Certain individuals may qualify to use the drop-box program, which allows applicants to apply for a visa without a personal interview. Qualified applicants include individuals who

• are age 80 or older, or
• are minors under age of 14, with both parents who have previously traveled to the U.S.

These applicants may submit their applications and supporting documents to the consular section via a courier service. Include the visa application form, passports (current and previous), bank fee receipt, and any other supporting documents. Bring all of these items to a courier service of your choice, who will deliver them to the consular section. The courier service will return the applicant’s passport and other documents after the consular section has processed the application. The cost for the courier service is paid by the applicant.

Submission of documents through the drop-box does not ensure visa issuance. In some cases, a consular officer may request that an applicant come to the consular section in Bucharest for a personal interview.
