NATIVE PEOPLES OF ALASKA FEATURED IN PHOTO EXHIBITION
The Cultural Center of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to welcome press and public attendance at the opening of a photo exhibit of the expedition of Uca Marinescu to the U.S. State of Alaska, undertaken from June 25-August 15, 2004. As a new museum of Native American culture and civilization has just opened on the Mall in Washington, DC, and as the U.S. celebrates November as Native American History Month, this exhibition comes at an opportune moment to share Ms. Marinescu's experience with several native peoples of Alaska through the medium of her photos.
Professor Uca Maria Marinescu, well known Romanian explorer and President of the Sports and Environment Commission of the Romanian Olympic Committee, together with the American Cultural Center, the Anthropological Research Center of the Romanian Academy and "Descopera" magazine invites you to this exhibit, opening on October 27 at 5 pm at the Exhibition Hall of the Library of the Romanian Academy, which continues until November 5.
Ms. Uca Maria Marinescu has earned fame as the first woman of any nation to walk the African continent from north to south without assistance of any kind, and as the first Romanian to trek to both the North and South Poles. A graduate of the Faculty of Physical Education in Bucharest, she was active in the field of sport as well as education. As a physical education teacher, she helped develop a respect for nature among young people, organizing through the "Temerarii" school tourism club, expeditions and ski camps for over 30 years.
